About
Travel with purpose
We’re a brother-and-sister team with a shared love for travel, the outdoors, and living close to nature. Barefoot Backpackers was born from that passion — a place where adventure, wellbeing, and natural living come together.
Who are Barefoot Backpackers?
Our Story
We grew up in a spontaneous family where adventure was part of everyday life, so in a way, travel is in our DNA. Over the years, we’ve learned so much from our time backpacking, not just about new cultures and places but about wellbeing and natural living.
Our favorite destinations are the ones abundant with tradition. Where ancestral wisdom, ancient practices, and traditional cooking still thrive. These are the places and people that have shaped us and continue to inspire how we live today.
From our travels, we’ve felt the shift happening in the backpacking world, a movement toward more purposeful travel. More people are seeking meaning, real connection, and experiences that help them grow. They’re putting their phones down, reflecting more deeply, and finding joy in simplicity, from mountain treks and meditation retreats to local cooking classes.
That’s what Barefoot Backpackers is all about — sharing the experiences that have shaped us and inspiring a way of travel (and living) that’s more natural, meaningful, and connected.
Meet the Team
Ellen
A lifelong explorer with a passion for holistic living, Ellen is the heart behind much of the wellbeing and travel guide side of Barefoot Backpackers. She is a qualified Ayurvedic health coach and longtime digital writer. When she’s not writing guides, you’ll find her practicing yoga, cooking up a storm or planning her next adventure. She’s all about helping travelers stay organised, grounded, nourished, and inspired wherever they are in the world.
Greg
The tech-savvy adventurer of the pair, Greg, brings the digital nomad perspective to the team. He’s happiest when he’s outdoors — hiking, on brainstorming walks, or chatting with locals over coffee in a new language. Greg has lived in many countries as a digital nomad, including Mexico and Argentina. With an eye for detail and a love of spontaneous travel, Greg’s all about offering practical advice on travel, outdoors, and technology.
